During our 2025 Annual Conference, we will host a book discussion workshop (SUN 4: with Joel G. Anderson, PhD, CHTP, FGSA and Lisa C. Anselme, BLS, RN, HN-BC, CHTP/I) of the book To Show Another Way: How to Learn, Heal, and Serve at a Time of Crisis on Planet Earth by Susan Trout, PhD, Co-Founder and Executive Director of the Institute for the Advancement of Service.

Susan gifted a set of her four books to Healing Beyond Borders for use within our community. She suggested we begin with To Show Another Way to meet the needs of Planet Earth at this time.

“Showing another way to ourselves and others is our life's ultimate purpose. When we commit to showing another way, we take the first step toward our ultimate destiny as human beings: to extend the gifts of our learning in service to others and Planet Earth.”

Healing Beyond Borders will provide complimentary copies of To Show Another Way ($25 USD value) for the cost of shipping only. Due to shipping costs, priority will be given firstly to registered attendees of the 2025 conference and secondly to North American members of Healing Beyond Borders while supplies last.

You can request a complimentary copy of book and pay shipping costs here in the Healing Beyond Borders online shop. This opportunity is available through August 15, 2025.

About Susan Trout:

Now retired, Susan Trout has focused her life on a single purpose—to understand service as a way to live in harmony with the soul’s true nature. As a result, the teachings within her work, including The Soul and Service Trilogy, (Born to Serve on the Healing Beyond Borders Book List), The Awakened Leader, The Clarion Call, and To Show Another Way: How to Learn, Heal, and Serve at a Time of Crisis on Planet Earth (2020), synthesize universal spiritual teachings, psychological and neurological research, and inner revelation with practical applications. Susan has written and taught worldwide about service, leadership, soul development, and group life, including a keynote presentation a tour 2006 conference in Breckenridge, Colorado.

Susan co-founded and pioneered the Institute for the Advancement of Service, in Washington, DC, in 1980. Its school of thought is known as The Clarion Way—the name given to the collective teachings of The Soul and Service Trilogy. Throughout the 45-year life of the Institute for the Advancement of Service, Susan served as its Executive Director and President of the Board. Following the Institute's official closing on March 1, 2025, she has continued to dedicate her efforts to sharing the transformative teachings of The Soul and Service Trilogy with individuals, leaders, groups, and organizations searching for concrete ways to usher in the new world through the free distribution of her books.

Susan holds graduate degrees from Stanford University and Northwestern University in psychoneurology and communication disorders. She has worked as a specialist and researcher in communication and neurological disorders in Alaska, Illinois, and California, including serving as a research consultant for a study of neurophysiology in children with brain disorders in Langley Porter Neuropsychiatric Institute at the University of California. In the 1970s, Susan co-founded and served as the chair of an innovative, nationally recognized clinical training program in neurological learning disorders at the University of the Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco.

Susan's work has been cited in numerous publications of various disciplines. For over 50 years, she has served leaders and organizations worldwide as they come to view their service and leadership as a classroom for spiritual development and self-transformation – a classroom of the soul.
